Raila Rejects KCPE Results, Claims Exams were printed locally and Results manipulated

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has alleged that the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams were printed on Mombasa road and the results were hacked and tampered with. He said this was part of a scheme by the government to rig the upcoming general elections and discredit his Azimio la Umoja movement.

Raila made the claims on Monday in Kisumu County during a recruitment drive for his ODM party. He said he had evidence that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) had contracted a local printer to produce the exam papers instead of the usual British firm that had been doing the job for years. He also said he had proof that the results were manipulated to favour some candidates and regions over others.

He cited the cases of some candidates who had their Kiswahili marks realigned to Kenyan Sign Language, yet they did not take the latter subject, and a school in Isiolo where all candidates scored 75 marks in Science. He said these were signs of a flawed and fraudulent exam system that was meant to undermine the credibility and quality of education in the country.

He accused President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua of being behind the exam scandal and said they were using the same tactics to rig the elections. He said they had hired hackers and data experts to infiltrate the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and manipulate the voter register and the results transmission system.

He urged Kenyans to reject the Ruto-Gachagua regime and join his Azimio la Umoja movement that seeks to unite the country and bring about social and economic transformation. He said his movement was committed to ensuring free and fair elections, quality education, universal health care, and devolution of resources to the grassroots.
