Kenyan President William Ruto is set to visit India on December 5, 2023, for a two-day state visit aimed at boosting trade and defense ties between the two nations. This will be President Ruto’s first visit to India, and he is expected to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu, among others.
India and Kenya are maritime neighbors, and the two countries have a long history of bilateral trade and cooperation. In August 2023, Goa Shipyard Limited and Kenya Shipyard Limited signed an MoU for capacity building and collaboration in ship design and construction. India has been trading in local currencies with a few countries and has Vostro accounts with over 22 nations, which includes Kenya.
During his visit, President Ruto is expected to discuss trade in local currencies and explore ways to enhance bilateral ties between the two nations.
