President William Ruto has welcomed the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) recommendations, presented by the ruling Kenya Kwanza and opposition Azimio la Umoja coalitions.
“The Dialogue’s overseers have completed their task, and we commend them for accomplishing this duty, let’s unite and propel Kenya forward,” Ruto declared.
Speaking to the Priesthood Fellowship congregation in Kahawa West, Roysambu Constituency on Sunday, President Ruto called for a 50% cut in government expenditure, encouraging leaders to live within their means for the advancement of Kenya.
“The recommendations they’ve made are all acceptable. Where they proposed a 50% reduction in Government spending, I’ve already implemented that. Those advocating for a 30% cut, I propose they raise it to 50% for Kenya’s progress. We must adopt a lifestyle within our means,” he elaborated.
The President also urged Parliamentarians to promptly discuss the committee’s suggestions, stressing a shared duty to advance Kenya.
“All the other proposals they’ve made, it’s now your responsibility, MPs, to debate and resolve them so we can continue to work together devoid of animosity and division,” Ruto stated. Praising the committee’s 4-month endeavor, President Ruto highlighted the feasibility of their recommendations.
The committee, in a joint statement on Saturday, November 25, underscored the necessity to slash travel budgets across government sectors by 50% and proposed a 30% cut in Daily Subsistence Allowances for State and Public Officers.
According to the committee, this strategy is intended to tackle the critical issue of the unprecedented high cost of living.
