Nandi politician Seronei arap Cheison has announced his departure from the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Cheison, who was ODM candidate in Nandi gubernatorial race in 2017, made the announcement hours after his party leader was defeated by Deputy President William Ruto.

Raila, who vied on the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party ticket, managed 6,942,930 votes (48.85 percent) against Ruto’s 7,176,141 votes which is 50.49 per cent of total valid votes cast.

Cheison blamed Azimio leadership for failing to come up with winning strategies on false hope that President Uhuru Kenyatta would use the “system” to help Raila succeed him.

“We bought a lazy yarn that somebody would make Baba President. We had no system. We had no money,” tweeted the disgruntled politician.

“Uhuru played safe to protect his business from destruction in case Baba lost! I’m done with ODM and politics of hope,” he added.

Cheison said Raila’s camp run a shambolic campaign and did not have alternative plans unlike Kenya Kwanza which he said was “better organised, wanted to win and went out to win”.

“KK outfoxed us on messaging, blogging, mobilising, organising. We relied on Baba the magnet”, he said.

Chesoin, a food scientist graduate from Egerton University, is the founder and president of Sonoin Tea Estate in Nandi Hills and former lecturer at the Technical University of Munich, Germany.
